About Y.E. Yang
Y.E. Yang (Yang Yong-eun) made golf history on August 16, 2009, when he became the first player born in Asia to win a major championship on the PGA Tour. Playing at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota, he trailed Tiger Woods — who had never lost a major after holding the 54-hole lead — by two strokes entering the final round. Yang stunned the golf world by shooting a closing 70 to Woods's 75, winning by three shots.
The defining moment came on the par-5 14th hole, where Yang, with the tournament on the line, executed an extraordinary flop shot over the bunker to within inches of the pin for birdie. Woods made bogey on the same hole. Yang's composure and creativity under pressure against the world's greatest player made it one of the most memorable performances in major championship history.
