How It Happened
Rory McIlroy defended his Masters title, closing with a 1-under 71 to finish at 12-under 276 and hold off Scottie Scheffler (-11) by a single shot. He became just the fourth player to win consecutive Masters, joining Jack Nicklaus (1965–66), Nick Faldo (1989–90) and Tiger Woods (2001–02).
A year after completing the Career Grand Slam in a playoff over Justin Rose, McIlroy proved 2025 was no catharsis one-off. The win was his sixth major championship. Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Henley, Justin Rose and Cameron Young tied for third at 10-under.
