How It Happened
J.J. Spaun produced one of the great U.S. Open finishes, rolling in a 64-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole — the longest putt anyone made all week at Oakmont — to win at 1-under 279, two clear of Robert MacIntyre.
It didn't come easy: Spaun bogeyed five of his first six holes on Sunday and turned in 5-over 40 before storming home in 3-under 32 through rain delays and Oakmont's brutal setup. Only Spaun finished the week under par.
